Materials Required

  • Dishwasher
  • Paper towels
  • Clean cloths
  • Water
  • Glass bowl
  • Kitchen cleaning spray

The Self-cleaning Step

The self-cleaning feature is one of the revolutionary functions that modern halogen ovens have and as the manufacturers claim, it does the whole cleaning job. However, that is not entirely true although it does a lot of dirt removal. Here’s how self-cleaning works: first, you need a glass bowl and some hot water. Pour some hot water up to about two inches into the glass bowl and then set the self-cleaner. If you use more water, say above the 2 inches mark on the glass bowl, some of it might spill over to the oven. The self-cleaning process should take about 10 minutes after which you are supposed to turn it off.

Cleaning the Lid

The lid of the halogen oven is the component that is likely to get very dirty because it gets a lot of food splashes during the cooking process. It is also the part which contains the electrical components of the halogen oven. Some models will allow you to separate the electrical elements to make it easy for you to clean the lid in a dishwasher or on a sink. If your model is one of those that allow you to separate the electrical part of the lid for cleaning purposes, then you should ensure that the lid is completely dry before assembling them back together after cleaning. This will help you to avoid any accidents that may arise from the contact of water and electricity.

Cleaning the Interior of the Halogen Oven

If your halogen oven has the self-cleaning function, this step is not too involving. All you need to do is wipe the interior of the oven using a clean cloth and kitchen spray. Avoid using an abrasive as this may scratch the surface of the interior. Once you have wiped off all the dirt and you are satisfied with the cleaning results, you should use a paper towel to remove the liquid residues.

Cleaning the Outside of the Halogen Oven

This is the final part of cleaning a halogen oven. It is therefore simple and less involving. All you need to do is wipe down with a clean cloth and a standard kitchen spray. Do not neglect any part of the exterior including the back and the underside of the halogen oven. Also, pay attention to the rack of the oven as it may have accumulated some dirt in the course of the cleaning process.
